How to Spend a Week in Vienna

Introduction

Vienna is the perfect place to spend a week, especially if you love history and culture. I went on vacation with my family and we loved all of the museums, palaces and architecture that Vienna has to offer. If you are planning a trip there soon, here’s what we did:

Day 1

  • Vienna’s city hall is one of its most iconic buildings. It was built in the late 1800s, and it’s worth a visit just to see the ornate interior.
  • You can also take a tour of the opera house if you’re interested in seeing where Mozart performed his famous operas Don Giovanni and The Marriage of Figaro.
  • If you want to explore some more museums, head over to Hofburg Palace where there are several art galleries on display for free (or for cheap). There are also some great views from here!

You’ll find plenty of beautiful gardens at both Albertina Museum and Belvedere Palace–and both places have excellent cafés where you can stop for lunch or afternoon tea if you get hungry while exploring these historic sites.

Day 2

Day 2

The second day is full of fun and adventure. You can start by visiting the Belvedere Palace, which was built in the 17th century to honor Empress Maria Theresa’s position as ruler over all of Austria. The palace itself has some great art but also a lot of history behind it—it was here that Mozart composed his last symphony before dying at age 35. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can also visit Schönbrunn Palace or walk along Vienna’s Danube River (the main waterway that runs through central Europe). Finally, if your schedule allows for it later that afternoon/evening, try strolling down Karlsplatz Square where there are many cafes and restaurants where you’ll find delicious food options!

Day 3

Day 3:

  • Visit the Schonbrunn Palace. The Schonbrunn Palace is a royal residence in Vienna that’s open to visitors, and it’s a great place to spend an afternoon exploring. The palace itself contains museums, gardens, and even an aquarium! If you’re interested in learning more about how people lived during this time period (or just want some good Instagram photos), check out their Mozart & Co exhibition–it’ll give you a pretty good idea of what life was like back then.
  • Spend some time exploring Belvedere Palace and gardens as well. Another option would be going over to see Hofburg Palace; both are equally impressive buildings with gorgeous architecture and grounds surrounding them–you’ll definitely want to spend some time wandering around these places if possible!

Day 4

  • Visit the Belvedere Palace. This massive palace was built in 1714 and is home to a collection of European art from the 16th-19th centuries. The building itself is beautiful, but it’s what’s inside that makes this place worth visiting: paintings by Raphael, Rubens, Titian and other renowned artists.
  • Visit Hofburg Palace. This grand castle was once home to many rulers throughout its history–it was built in 1298 as a residence for King Albert I of Germany (who ruled over Austria). With so much history behind it and countless rooms full of treasures like jewels and artwork, this place has something for everyone!
  • Go see Schönbrunn Palace! If you’re looking for something with more gardens than castles then head over here instead; you’ll find plenty of green space where kids can run around while adults enjoy themselves too!

Day 5

Day 5: The Belvedere Palace and the Kunsthistorisches Museum

On your fifth day in Vienna, you’ll want to spend some time at two of its most famous museums. First on your list should be the Belvedere Palace. This Baroque building houses an impressive collection of paintings by artists such as Rubens, Rembrandt and Titian. It’s also worth stopping by for lunch at their restaurant–the food is delicious!

Afterwards, head over to one of Vienna’s most popular museums: The Kunsthistorisches Museum (also known as “The Art History Museum”). It houses a huge collection of artworks from all over Europe and Asia dating back thousands of years; if you’re interested in seeing how cultures have evolved over time then this is definitely the place for you! You could even spend all day here if you wanted!

Day 6

On day six, you’ll be able to explore the Belvedere Palace and take a walk through the Prater. This is a huge park that’s also home to an amusement park and zoo, so there are lots of things for kids to do here as well! The Kunsthistorisches Museum is also located here, so if you have time on your hands before heading back home for dinner at 8pm (or earlier), I recommend checking it out!

After spending some time at both these places in Vienna—which were both awesome by the way—I hope you’ve learned enough about what makes Austria such an amazing place: its rich history; beautiful architecture; delicious food…and even some amazing museums! If not then maybe next time we can go somewhere else?

Vienna is a great place to spend a week. It’s a city with many things to do, has a lot of history and offers plenty of museums, historic buildings and parks for you to explore. The food scene in Vienna is also incredible; there are many restaurants, cafes and bars serving up traditional Austrian cuisine as well as modern European dishes with international influences such as Indian or Chinese food.

Conclusion
